Suitable Flooring for Medical and Industrial Applications

Though various epoxies and floor sealants had been applied over the years, much of the floors surface at a local medical technologies and supply business had again begun to peel and crack, leaving exposed concrete and compromising sanitation and clean-up of the facilities.  Production and operations ran each and every day, and were crucial to sustaining the business’ bottom line.  Thus, any flooring solution would ideally be a long-lived product, but almost as important it must be able to be applied and must cure/harden in as little time as possible.  Garage Outfitters, with our polyaspartic paint system for repairing, improving, and protecting commercial floors, was the clear choice for the quality, reliability, and cost-effective solution required.

Work at the facility was curtailed on a Saturday, and our grinding and preparation process began early in the morning.  Removing all surface impurities and failing epoxies/sealants is the first step, and is the key to our guarantee that the floor will never peel or crack.  Once the grinding is complete and the floor has been thoroughly vacuumed, roll on application of the base coat can begin.  As the paint is applied to a properly-prepared floor it seeps into the concrete, up to 1/8 of an inch, and as it dries and cures, bonds mechanically with the existing concrete slab!

By noon the first base coat was dry and the second coat of base applied.  Before it dried, we thinly broadcast black vinyl chips onto the floor, which was the customer’s choice of style.  Not only can the vinyl chip layer add a great look to any floor, but it also hides dirt and dust once the process is complete, and adds an added measure of traction to the floor.

An hour and a half later, once the chips had set in the hardening second base coat, the floor was shaved and all excess vinyl chips vacuumed up.  The time had come for the first of two top coats to be applied!  Both top coats are clear, and show off whatever vinyl chip pattern the customer prefers, and also adds an eye-catching gloss and sheen to the final product.  And, for added safety, an additive called Shark-Bite was mixed into both top coats, providing still another level of grip and grittiness to the floor.

By 5:30 in the afternoon the final top coat was applied, and just 24 hours later the business’ employees would be able to reset their equip on the completed floors and resume activities as usual.  Both the business owners and the facility manager were extremely satisfied with the convenience of the process and the value of the final product.  Because the product is very cost-effective with a long life span, and the process is fast and of minimal inconvenience, the owners are considering having our polyaspartic paint and process applied to their 8000 square-foot addition!
